The Jonathan Dayton Bulldogs boys cross country team competed in the North 2 Group 1 sectional championship in Oak Ridge Park. Sophomore Colin Riley won the 5k race. Colin is the first Dayton Bulldog to win a sectional race since Ed Reinhardt in 1970. Colin now has a Mountain Valley and Sectional title. Colin has run the fastest 5k for a Dayton runner in the last 25 years at 16:58.
Sophomore Allan Jean-Baptiste finished third overall. He out sprinted two competitors in the last 200 meters to finish 3rd in 17:38. Senior Captain Daniel Galao Birkmann finished 8thoverall in 18:32. He was all Mountain conference first team his junior and sophomore year. Last season he was third team all-Union County.
Seniors Harrison Turner and Luke Hernandez both had excellent runs. Both Harrison and Luje were first team all Mountain Conference the last two seasons. Along with sophomore Jaydan Martinez, the boys’ team earned a second place finish out of nine teams competing.This is the best finish in a sectional race for the boys team since the 1980!
